Georgia QB Stetson Bennett Arrested

Star Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett was arrested and charged with public toxication in Dallas on Sunday, according to authorities.

The Dallas Police Department said officers responded to reports of a man banging on doors sometime around 6 or 7 a.m., per multiple news reports.

“The preliminary investigation found when officers arrived, they located the man, Stetson Bennett, 25, and determined he was intoxicated,” police said in a statement. “Bennett was taken into custody, transported to the City Detention Center and charged with public intoxication.”

Local news outlet WFAA, an ABC affiliate, reported Bennett was released from custody before 11 a.m. Video from the television station showed Bennett being released. He did not respond when asked what he was doing in Dallas.

Bennett led the Georgia Bulldogs to two straight national championship victories, most recently with a triumph over the TCU Horned Frogs. He was named offensive MVP in both championship wins and was a 2022 Heisman Trophy finalist.

A sixth-year student, Bennett was allowed to complete last season thanks to the NCAA granting players an additional year — six total — to complete four full seasons in a sport because of the COVID pandemic.

Bennett is expected to graduate with an economics degree in May, according to CBS Sports.

ESPN reports Bennett is considered a potential pick in the NFL draft in April.
