McCarthy Blasts CNN For Saying ‘Open Border’ Is A Talking Point: ‘11,000 People Came Across Illegally’ In Last 24 Hours

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy slammed CNN while speaking with reporters on Monday after the left-wing network said claims that the U.S. border was open was a “talking point.”

The news comes as Fox News reported on Monday that sources from Customs and Border Protection said that they encountered approximately 11,000 illegal aliens over the last 24 hours on the southern border, which they said was the “single highest day” that they could remember.

Host Jim Acosta was combative with Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) during an interview over the weekend about the ever-worsening illegal immigration crisis on the southern border, claiming that he was “throwing rhetoric around with no basis in fact.”

When Norman asked Acosta if he’s been to the border, Acosta snapped, saying: “I’ll ask the questions, sir.”

“And the border is not open. That is something that is peddled as a talking point, it’s not true,” Acosta claimed. “There are fences. There are walls. There are Border Patrol agents who work on the border.”

Norman fired back: “The five plus million that have gotten into this country illegally is not a figment of our imagination. Ask the Border Patrol agents. Ask anybody down there. They’re frustrated.”

McCarthy then called out CNN blogger Manu Raju while speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill about the looming government shutdown.

“CNN referred to yesterday that an ‘open border’ is a talking point,” he said. “Well, we just set a new record of 11,000 people came across illegally. The record was just Friday, a few days before, of 10,000.”

McCarthy said that the media needed to accurately report the situation on the border and that Republicans want border security to be front in center as they address government funding.
