The Republican National Committee (RNC) headquarters in Washington, D.C., went under lockdown on Wednesday morning, reportedly as investigators looked into a potentially hazardous substance.
NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns broke the news on X, posting, āDEVELOPING: RNC HQ in DC is under lockdown until further notice. Hazmat team is on site sources tell me.ā
She later reported, citing three sources, that āvials of blood were sent to the RNCā¦ā
Capitol Police told congressional offices they are investigating a āsuspicious substanceā at the RNCās address, according to a notice obtained by Axios.
āStaff and other personnel are directed to AVOID THIS AREA until further notice,ā the message said, as relayed by reporter Andrew Solander.

Sam Lister, a Capitol Hill producer for Scripps News, shared on X how there was āYellow caution tape everywhere to block the street and lots of folks standing outside on the sidewalk near the RNC.ā

Roughly an hour after the lockdown got reported, the U.S. Capitol Police gave the āall clear.ā
