‘Boy Meets World’ Star Files Paperwork To Run For Congress

Ben Savage, the star of comedy kids show “Boy Meets World,” has filed paperwork showing interest in running for congress.

Savage appears to be hoping to run for California’s 30th District for the U.S. House of Representatives if current Democratic Representative Adam Schiff decides to run for Senator Dianne Feinstein’s seat in the Senate.

Savage filed documentation with the Federal Election Commission for “Ben Savage for Congress” on Wednesday. He filed under the Democratic Party.

Rob Pyers of California Target Book reportedly seemed to be the first to release the news that Savage was possibly going after Schiff’s currently held seat, along with a tweet from CATargetBot.

In November, Savage ran for local office to serve on the L.A. City Council, but was unsuccessful. Savage came in seventh place, securing 6.32% of the vote. He had resided in West Hollywood for eighteen years when he ran for office.

On his campaign website for West Hollywood city council, Savage said he was “running for City Council because there are serious challenges ahead and West Hollywood deserves sensible, honest and strong leadership to face them.”

“The city is facing serious challenges around public safety, struggling businesses, inflation and the cost of housing. We need new leaders with a fresh perspective who are ready to begin tackling these issues,” he added. “We need to restore faith in city government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to the city’s most pressing issues.”

“We need to increase and expand access to all the great opportunities West Hollywood affords, by ensuring that every member of the community has the tools they need to succeed,” he stated.

In November, Politico reported that several sources said Representative Adam Schiff was not planning to go after a leading Democratic role in the House. Rather, he was setting his sights on possibly running for the Senate.

Senator Feinstein has not said she is stepping down from her Senate seat in California, but at least two Democratic congresswomen are jumping into the race perhaps with the hopes that she will close out her time in politics. Representatives Katie Porter and Barbara Lee have both stated that they plan to run for the California Senate seat.

According to IMDB, Savage continued to pursue his schooling even while he was an actor. In 2004, he graduated from Stanford University with a Political Science degree. He also interned for U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, during the summer of 2003.

Savage also announced personal news last week that he is now engaged to his girlfriend, Tessa Angermeier.
