Sidelined Since 2022 Stiff Person Syndrome Diagnosis, Celine Dion To Perform At Paris Olympics: Report

Celine Dion will reportedly perform during the opening ceremony on Friday at the Olympics in Paris, marking her first public performance in years amid her health battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS) after being diagnosed in 2022.

The 56-year-old Grammy winner will return to the stage during the 2024 Summer Olympics kick-off where she will reportedly be paid $2 million for performing just one song, TMZ reported.

The “My Heart will Go On” hitmaker was spotted on Monday checking into the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris, with sources telling Page Six she will indeed sing at the ceremony.

In 2021, Dion stopped her Las Vegas residency and it wasn’t long after that she revealed she’d been dealing with the debilitating symptoms connected to the autoimmune neurological disorder, which she said started as early as 2008, the New York Post reported.

Speaking to Vogue France in April, the singer opened up about her life-altering illness and said she’s hoping to “find a miracle.”

“I haven’t beat the disease, as it’s still within me and always will be,” Dion said. “I hope that we’ll find a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but for now I have to learn to live with it. So that’s me, now, with Stiff Person Syndrome.”

“Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy,” she added. “I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice … I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At the beginning I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault? Life doesn’t give you any answers. You just have to live it!”

“I have this illness for some unknown reason,” the legendary singer continued. “The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”

The “All By Myself” singer and mother of three — who revealed her diagnosis after canceling several of her concerts — said she is able to keep fighting thanks to all the love of her family, children, and fans.

“People who suffer from SPS may not be lucky enough or have the means to have good doctors and good treatments,” Dion said. “I have those means, and this is a gift. What’s more, I have this strength within me. I know that nothing is going to stop me.”

Jon Voight Says Famous Daughter ‘Ignorant’ For Pro-Palestinian Stance

Jon Voight said his famous daughter Angelina Jolie is “ignorant” for her pro-Palestinian stance and suggested that she’s been “influenced by anti-Semitic people.”

Speaking to Variety magazine, the 85-year-old actor said that his 49-year-old actress daughter was “naive” when it comes to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas following the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7.

“She has been exposed to propaganda,” Voight said. “She’s been influenced by antisemitic people. Angie has a connection to the UN [United Nations], and she’s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees.”

“She’s ignorant of what the real stakes are and what the real story is because she’s in the loop of the United Nations,” he added, calling out the “naive” activists who claim there are millions of Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and Gaza, the outlet noted.

“They’re dupes who never get outside of their bubble,” Voight continued, noting that Jolie is one of those “naive dupes.” “She doesn’t really want to share this kind of stuff, because she’s of another mind about it.”

Voight made it clear he loves his daughter and doesn’t want to fight with her, but said that the “fact is, I think she has been influenced by the UN. From the beginning, it’s been awful with human rights. They call it human rights, but it’s just anti-Israel bashing.”

The comments came after the “Eternals” star said in a post in October on Instagram that “what happened in Israel is an act of terror.”

“But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border to seek refuge,” Jolie’s post read.

Last year, Jolie’s father made it clear he wasn’t happy with his daughter for defending Palestinians, the New York Post noted.

“I am very disappointed that my daughter, like so many, has no understanding of God’s honor, God’s truths,” Voight said in an Instagram video at the time.

“This is about destroying the history of God’s land, the Holy Land, the Land of the Jews. This is justice for God’s children of the Holy Land,” he added.

Jolie has reportedly never responded in public to her father’s comments, the Post noted.
