GOP Senators Escalate Stand Against Biden Nominees Over Trump Prosecutions

A group of Senate Republicans have signed onto a new pledge to place a hold on a growing number of President Joe Biden‘s nominees in protest of the criminal prosecutions against former President Donald Trump.

Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Mike Lee (R-UT), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) signed onto a letter dated June 13 with details of their crack-down.

Fast-tracking of Biden’s Article III court judicial nominees, U.S. attorney nominees, and nominees who backed the Trump cases or “supported law fare or censorship in other ways” will be stopped under this plan.

“This compliment to the pledge of May 31 will last until Election Day, when the American people will have the opportunity to decisively reject attempts to settle political disputes through the legal system,” they said.

Vance, a VP contender, and the others signed an earlier letter that said they would try to stop funding for “partisan lawfare,” confirmation of political and judicial nominees, and quick consideration of Democrat bills.

“We need to fight back against the weaponization of government against political opposition. I’m proud to stand with a number of my Republican senate colleagues and do just that,” Vance said in a post to X on Thursday.

A press release listed dozens of Biden’s nominees to whom the Senate GOP hold applies, including the selection of Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) to become representative to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Former Florida Democratic Governor Charlie Crist, who is nominated to be the United States’ Representative to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization, is another one of Biden’s picks on the list.

The letters follow Trump’s guilty verdict on felony counts of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up a tryst with adult film star Stormy Daniel as part of a “catch-and-kill” scheme to influence the 2016 election.

Trump, who denied the affair and pleaded not guilty, said he would be “appealing this scam.” Sentencing is scheduled for July 11, which is days before Trump is expected to receive the GOP presidential nomination.

Three other criminal matters hang over Trump as he runs for a second term, including two cases led by special counsel Jack Smith. It is not clear whether any of those will reach the trial stage before the 2024 election.

Cause Of Death For Popular ‘Comicstorian’ YouTube Creator, 40, Revealed

The cause of death for YouTube personality Benny Potter, better known to his millions of subscribers as Comicstorian, has been revealed.

The late content creator’s wife announced Saturday that Potter, 40, had died unexpectedly but shared no details beyond that. It has now been made public that the YouTuber died as the result of a single-vehicle car crash in Colorado.

The Colorado State Patrol and the Fort Collins Coroner’s Office both released statements regarding Potter’s death, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The report said Potter was driving southbound on I-25 near mile 267.5 at 9:19 a.m. on June 8 when his Toyota 4Runner drifted off the right shoulder and rolled several times, per the Colorado State Patrol. He died at the scene.

The police noted that Potter was wearing a seatbelt when the car crashed and said no one else was in the vehicle. There were also no other vehicles involved. The report also noted that authorities do not believe drugs, alcohol, or speeding were likely to be reasons for the accident.

Potter became famous on YouTube and boasted more than 3 million subscribers for content focused on comic topics, especially in the Marvel and DC universes. Comicstorian had been a member of the video-sharing community for more than a decade and had posted more than 4,000 videos over that time span.

Potter’s wife, Natalie, initially shared the news of his passing on X.

“To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for,” she wrote

“As a husband, a son, a brother, a friend, or even just a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who would listen and make time for his loved ones. He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay. He was our rock and he’d reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it,” the YouTube star’s wife added.

“His channel was one of his greatest accomplishments, and while we all need our time to mourn him, I know he wouldn’t want it to end like this,” she wrote, describing her late husband as someone who “spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. It was through his love of exciting stories and well-written characters that got him started on YouTube.”

“The team and I want to keep that going. To honor him by continuing to tell great stories by great people, as well as to keep the memory of our very own superhero alive,” Nathalie wrote at the end of the message. “We supported each other on everything we wanted to do and I’m not about to stop now.”
