Biden Plans To Address Trump Hush-Money Trial Verdict From White House: Report

President Joe Biden, who has stayed quiet on presumptive Republican Party nominee Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial, is planning on giving a public address after the jury reaches a verdict, POLITICO reported.

The outlet cited “four people familiar with internal deliberations” in the Biden administration who said the president will likely address the hush-money verdict from the White House, not at a campaign event, to avoid the appearance of Biden making a political statement on the trial’s outcome. Trump’s hush-money trial is nearing its end after weeks of arguments and testimonies as closing arguments are slated for Tuesday.

“This is an important moment and the president first and foremost needs to stress that the American system works, even and especially in an election year,” said one of the four people familiar with internal discussions who was granted anonymity. “And in a measured way, it becomes part of his argument against Trump too: Do Americans really want this?”

The former president is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to his alleged hush-money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied the charges brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The leftist district attorney charged Trump years after federal prosecutors ended their investigation into Trump’s alleged hush-money payments without bringing any charges in 2019.

POLITICO reported that if the jury finds Trump guilty, Biden’s team will argue that the former president is not suited to be elected to another term. Biden is still planning on addressing the verdict even if the jury acquits his political rival, according to the people familiar with the discussions, but they added that those plans could change.

If Trump makes it past the Manhattan criminal trial without being convicted, Biden’s team is reportedly preparing for a barrage of outrage from Trump, his supporters, and other potential voters who have argued that the legal system is being used to target the presidential candidate to keep him off the campaign trail.

Early on Saturday morning, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to blast Biden and Bragg, arguing that the Manhattan criminal trial is “election interference.”

“The City of New York’s D.A., Alvin Bragg, is trying to prosecute a Federal case, which cannot be done, and where there is NO CRIME, that has been turned down by everyone, including the Federal Elections Commission, SDNY, the D.A.’s Office, and Bragg himself – Until I announced that I was running for President,” Trump wrote. “This case could have been brought 7 years ago, but wasn’t. It is another Crooked Joe Biden Election Interference Hoax!”

American Missionary Couple Killed By Haitian Gangs Were ‘Full Of Love And Devotion To The People Of Haiti,’ Family Says

Davy and Natalie Lloyd, the young missionary couple who were serving in Haiti when they were killed by Haitian gangs on Thursday, had a heart for the people of Haiti and “reached countless lives in so many ways,” according to Missouri Republican state Rep. Ben Baker, who is Natalie’s father.

Davy, Natalie, and Jude Montis, the local director of Missions in Haiti Inc., were ambushed by a gang while they were leaving a youth church activity in northern Port-au-Prince. The three missionaries took cover in a house but the gang found them and started shooting at the house, Davy’s sister Hannah Cornett told the Associated Press. Missions in Haiti, Inc. posted on Facebook that “Davy was taken to the house tied up and beat” before a different gang showed up and appeared to exchange gunfire.

Davy, Natalie, and Jude were all fatally shot at 9:00 p.m. local time, the missions organization later posted.

“They loved Haiti and loved its people dearly and ultimately gave everything for them. Davy and Natalie reached countless lives in so many ways and we want them to be remembered for who they were, selfless and full of love and devotion to the people of Haiti,” Baker said, according to Fox News.

The Missouri state representative had posted the news of the attack on his daughter and son-in-law on Facebook early Thursday morning.

“My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain,” he wrote. “Most of you know my daughter and son-in-law Davy and Natalie Lloyd are full time missionaries in Haiti. They were attacked by gangs this evening and were both killed. They went to Heaven together. Please pray for my family we desperately need strength. And please pray for the Lloyd family as well. I have no other words for now.”

Davy’s parents, David and Alicia Lloyd of Oklahoma, founded Missions in Haiti, Inc. in 2000 and are full-time missionaries in the Caribbean country. Davy grew up in Haiti with his family, Cornett told the AP. Davy then went to Bible college in the U.S., where he met Natalie. The couple married in June 2022 before moving to Haiti. Jude Montis had worked for the Lloyd’s missions organization in Haiti for 20 years, according to Cornett.

Haiti has been plagued with violence in recent months as gangs fight for control of the country. The U.S. evacuated embassy personnel from the country in March as the Department of State warned, “The current security situation in Haiti is unpredictable and dangerous.”

Two GoFundMe fundraisers have been set up to support the families of Baker and Lloyd families, including support for funeral expenses. Missions in Haiti, Inc. confirmed the authenticity of both fundraisers, which have combined to raise nearly $100,000 as of Saturday afternoon.
