Just A Reminder, The Catholic Church Does Not Support Open Borders. It Has Pretty Reasonable Immigration Guidance.

When it comes to immigration, President Joe Biden should take some advice from the Roman Catholic Church. In short, the Church does not support open borders and offers reasonable guidelines for how a wealthy country should handle foreigners seeking to cross the border — legally or not.

Under Biden, the U.S. border has become a sieve. Millions have flooded in and have since been dispersed throughout the country. Cities such as Portland, Maine, and New York City end up shouldering the burden of this emergency. States such as Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas are forced to send National Guardsmen to the border to help secure it.

Meanwhile, the federal government remains trillions of dollars in debt, its people are suffering from heavy inflation, and a housing crisis continues practically unabated. Public schools are failing. Opioids are killing thousands every month. These problems and others that plague the United States have existed before Biden’s inauguration. All of them, in one way or another, are exacerbated by mass immigration.

Yet, in spite of the malaise, Democrats and soft Republicans argue that the U.S. has a moral obligation to welcome those who cross the border. They argue it will help us. In fact, Catholic politicians like former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi often cite their faith in God as why the U.S. should welcome in millions — even as millions of Americans struggle.

So what does the Church say? Per the Catechism of the Catholic Church, a book that summarizes Church doctrine, “The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin.”

Just a reminder, here's what the Catholic Church teaches about immigration. She doesn't support open borders:

For the reasons listed above, as well as others, it can be argued that “the extent” to which the U.S. is able has already been met. Furthermore, the Church also allows countries to set standards, laws, and regulations regarding immigration.

“Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption,” the Church says.

What constitutes the “common good?” Well, again, going off the Church, the common good is “the sum total of social conditions which allow people, either as groups or as individuals, to reach their fulfillment more fully and more easily.”

If allowed, mass legal and illegal immigration can hamper the ability of America’s poorest to “reach their fulfillment more fully and more easily” by driving down wages and driving up other costs.

The Church also has requirements for immigrants who arrive in new countries as well.

“Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws, and to assist in carrying civic burdens,” the Church noted.

So, if your first act is breaking the law by crossing the border illegally — then you are not respecting America’s laws.

Of course, the U.S. has a separation of church and state. Not everything in the Catechism would constitute wise policy-making. Yet on the issue of immigration, it’s right on the money.

Conflating this problem is that many Catholic non-profits and non-governmental organizations are facilitating the illegal crossing. Those groups are often given taxpayer money to do so. As Lora Ries of the Heritage Foundation noted, Congress must cut off that cash flow to help make a dent in illegal immigration. The Biden administration could also stop using these groups to effectively “smuggle illegal aliens the final miles of their journey.”

Unfortunately, there’s about as much of a chance of Biden becoming pro-life as there is Biden suddenly curbing immigration. God help us all.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces New Round Of Journalists Receive ‘Unfettered Access’ To J6 Tapes

On Wednesday, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said three news media outlets received footage from the U.S. Capitol riot that took place on January 6, 2021, in an effort to bring more transparency about what happened that day to the American people.

According to Greene, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released “unfettered access” of the Capitol security footage to investigative journalist and Just the News founder John Solomon, senior writer for American Greatness Julie Kelly, and an unidentified third news outlet.

“This is the transparency the American people deserve and I look forward to their reporting!” Greene tweeted.

I’m excited to share the good news that just as I promised the J6 tapes are being released!@SpeakerMcCarthy has given @jsolomonReports, @Julie_kelly2, and a third outlet unfettered access to the J6 tapes, and their reporting on it starts tomorrow.

McCarthy first announced he would unleash more than 40,000 hours of security footage from the Capitol riot to networks earlier this year to counter the “politicization” he believes had been fostered by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the January 6th Committee.

“We will slowly roll out to every individual news agency,” McCarthy told Fox News in March. “They can come see the tapes as well. Let everyone see them to bring their own judgment.”

McCarthy first gave the exclusive surveillance footage to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who reported several tapes showing two Capitol police officers escorting Jacob Chansley, known as the “QAnon Shaman,” throughout the building.

Prosecutors charged Chansley with multiple crimes, but he ultimately pleaded guilty to one felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding, and in November 2021 he was sentenced to 41 months in prison.

Authorities have since released Chansley from prison and relocated him to a reentry management facility in Phoenix, where he was held until May 25.

Carlson also released footage of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick that he claims was taken “after he was supposedly murdered by the mob outside,” raising questions about other now-retracted claims from outlets, including an initial report from The New York Times that claimed rioters killed Sicknick after striking him in the head with a fire extinguisher.

The newspaper later retracted the report after an autopsy found that he died from a stroke the following day.

Capitol Police officials said the video Carlson’s show aired was not put in proper context and that the police seen near Chansley were trying to de-escalate what would become a dangerous situation.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called from the Senate floor for Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch to pull Carlson off the air, and reporters from several sites hounded McCarthy for giving Carlson’s team access to the video.

More than two years after the riot, Americans have called on lawmakers to release the footage to the public, expressing concerns over how media outlets curate the timeline of events.

Kelly, who has been covering the January 6 investigation since the riot occurred, denounced the idea of a public release as “counterproductive.”

“I do not see how this is possible,” she tweeted. “The system is overwhelming — it’s not something you can just put on the internet. And yes, you need curators who know the timeline of events, locations, etc to give clips context.”

“Making all of it public isn’t just impossible right now but counterproductive in terms of impact,” she added. “Trust us.”

According to Greene, reporting from the latest round of journalists with access to the Capitol riot footage begins on June 1.
