Numerous sources close to former President Donald Trump and the House Freedom Caucus are warning that a small group of Republicans who are resisting House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to be House Speaker during the upcoming congressional term are playing a dangerous game that could cause serious damage to the party at a critical moment in American history.

The push to make McCarthy the next Speaker comes after Republicans won a slim majority in the House of Representatives during the last month’s midterm elections, 222 seats vs. 213 seats won by Democrats.

McCarthy is widely viewed as the most solid pick for Republicans because he is not controversial and he tries to get everyone throughout the Republican Caucus on the same page.

The remarks from those The Daily Wire spoke to come as Trump himself has personally reached out to some lawmakers telling them to stop playing games and to get behind supporting McCarthy, calling him “My Kevin.”

The small group of Republicans who have come out publicly against McCarthy include Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT), and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ).

Several other Republicans have raised concerns or have not yet committed, including: Rep. Scott Perry (R-CA), Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC), Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Rep.-elect Eli Crane (R-AZ), Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN).

One Republican source on Capitol Hill who spoke with The Daily Wire on Thursday afternoon said that the main reason that the 12 House Republicans were opposing McCarthy was mostly because they wanted attention or they held some sort of a personal grievance that was small compared to the matter at hand.

“Too many career politicians have used the America First movement as a springboard to ‘Me First,’” said a senior Trump World official. “This entire effort isn’t about policy or principle, it’s about a small group of politicians wanting the limelight at the expense of the movement.”

A former senior Trump White House official close to the Freedom Caucus told The Daily Wire that resisting McCarthy at this moment in time had the potential to damage the party moving forward.

“I hope the Freedom Caucus guys get concessions from McCarthy, but if they get what they want and still oppose him, then it will be clear that this never had anything to do with principle,” the source said. “If they take this circus to the House floor, it has the potential to damage the entire party at a time when we should united and laser focused on investigating the s*** out of the Biden Administration.”

A longtime conservative activist told The Daily Wire, “We all want House Leadership to be as conservative as possible, but after seeing Gaetz publicly float Steve Scalise as a potential Speaker, I now question whether this is really about principle or actually just about petty, personal grievances.”

“Scalise was the only member of House Leadership who refused to support Harriet Hageman against Liz Cheney, so how could any principled conservative want to see him as Speaker?” the activist question.

A source close to Mark Meadows and the Freedom Caucus said that the notion that any of the 12 Republican holdouts could become Speaker was sheer lunacy.

“Anyone who thinks House moderates would ever kowtow to Biggs and Gaetz and support a Speaker to the right of McCarthy is living in a fantasy land,” the source said. “The reality is that any alternative to McCarthy will end up being far worse for conservatives. McCarthy may not be perfect, but from elevating conservative rockstars like Jim Jordan to leadership positions to explicitly opposing any form of amnesty for illegals, he has proven himself to be a much stronger conservative than previous GOP leaders like Paul Ryan or John Boehner ever were. The Freedom Caucus lost its way the day that Mark Meadows left congress.”

In testimony before the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday, Asra Nomani, a parents’ rights activist who grew up in India before emigrating to the U.S. at the age of four, lambasted woke zealots for indoctrinating schoolchildren into Critical Race Theory.

Nomani started her testimony by noting that she grew up in West Virginia — a mostly white state — yet was welcomed and became successful in America.

“I was affirmed; I was supported; I was able to grow up a girl who knew not a word of English when I arrived to become a reporter for The Wall Street Journal,” she recalled, before blasting those accusing parents’ rights activists of being representatives of white supremacy. “I’m sitting here before you today, apparently the face of white supremacy,” Nomani said.

She also drew attention to the shirt she was wearing, which she said was “inspired by the gown hat Representative Ocasio-Cortez wore to the Met gala,” which was emblazoned with “Tax The Rich.” The shirt contained names that Nomani said she has been called during the course of her advocacy on behalf of parents.

“Things like ‘domestic terrorist,’ ‘white supremacist,’ ‘QAnon moms.’ What is it that we, the parents, have dared to stand up against in the United States of America over the last couple years?” Nomani told the panel.

She answered her own question by holding up a copy of a Critical Race Theory book.

“It is a divisive ideology expressed through this book. … It is a book that is taught in law schools but it is translated into our school systems with books like this: ‘Not My Idea.’ A Book About Whiteness,” she said.

“The trickle-down effect of the demonization of any human being because of their race is books like this,” she declared. “Where does this book take us as an idea? It takes us to this very simple idea: An idea that is a new hierarchy of human value. There is no doubt that the hierarchy of human value that was about white supremacy is illegitimate. Every single person is opposed to the idea of white supremacy. But we cannot replace an old hierarchy of human value with a new hierarchy of human value that demonizes children with this book.”

She quoted from the book: “Whiteness is a bad deal. Filing a contract with the devil.”

“The message is the shaming of human beings,” she said harshly. “No child should be shamed.”

“This is an ideology that I call the ‘Woke army,’” she stated. “It is an ideology of activists who are going through America’s school districts and our communities and what they are doing is a threat to democracy.”

After pointing out the poor school records of students in Raskin’s and Michigan Democrat Rashida Talib’s districts, she asserted, “Our children are in a crisis today, and the idea that we the parents are now the agents of white supremacy is unacceptable. All of these books that I have here today are the indoctrination that is being put into the minds of our children instead of the fundamentals that are critical to make them educated enlightened citizens that protect our democracy.”

Later, Nomani tweeted, “Hello @RepRaskin, I was the only Muslim who testified at the  @OversightDems   @GOPoversight  hearing on Tuesday. The only Asian American. Maybe the only immigrant?
