Queens Woman Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter In Exchange For Shorter Sentence in Shoving Death of Elderly Woman

A woman from Queens, New York randomly shoved an 87-year-old woman resulting in her death last year.

Lauren Pazienda, 27, pleaded guilty to manslaughter this week in exchange for a shorter sentence.

Pazienda will only serve 8 years behind bars after she shoved an elderly woman to the ground and walked away.

CBS New York:

NEW YORK — A plea deal was announced Wednesday in the case of a Queens woman who randomly pushed a beloved 87-year-old vocal coach to the ground, killing her.

Lauren Pazienza pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in exchange for a shorter sentence.

Pazienza, 27, walked into the courtroom teary eyed, handcuffed and wearing bright lipstick. She withdrew her not guilty plea.

“Are you pleading guilty because you are in fact guilty?” the judge asked.

“Yes,” Pazienza said, in exchange for a sentence of eight years in state prison and five years post-release supervision. Had it gone to trial, she was facing up to 25 years.

The victim was 87 year old Barbara Gustern, who was a vocal coach.

CBS New York:

In March 2022, Pazienza, who police said had been drinking heavily with her fiancé, left Chelsea Park angry and crossed the street toward 87-year-old Barbara Gustern at West 29th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.

Pazienza called Gustern, who was a stranger to her, an expletive then pushed her to the ground. Gustern hit her head on the pavement before losing consciousness told the friend she was with she had never been hit that hard in her life.

Pazienza walked away and left her there. Gustern later died at the hospital.

She attempted to cover up the crime by deleting social media accounts, keeping her cell phone in a different location, and quitting her job. Considering the crime, her sentence was light compared with what she could have received if she had plead not guilty.

DEVELOPING: Fans Pour Out of Stadium After Two People Shot at White Sox Game

A shooting at a White Sox game caused people to flee from Guaranteed Rate Field located on the South Side of Chicago Friday night.

Police confirmed a shooting took place in the left field bleachers.

A 90s-themed concert featuring Vanilla Ice and others was canceled after the shooting.

This #WhiteSox franchise is a joke. The product on the field is pathetic, and the rest of the organization is just as bad. Tons of fans bought tickets to tonight's game, and sat through a horrible game, because there was supposed to be a concert afterwards. Then after the game… pic.twitter.com/TZOzGP9jKe

According to media reports, at least 2 people were shot. Their injuries are non-life threatening.

It is unclear what led to the shooting. An investigation is ongoing.

No word on the suspect(s).

ABC 7 Chicago reported:

A shooting at the White Sox game caused some scary moments for some fans, and appeared to cancel the post-game concert.

The shooting apparently happened somewhere in the left field bleachers. Further details haven’t been released by the police, and the White Sox have not commented on the incident.

Tom Miller, who attended the game, said that he was sitting two rows behind where the shooting occurred. He said he didn’t hear or see what happened but moments later a woman appeared to be bleeding from the leg. He said he believed two people, possibly three, suffered some sort of wound.

“It happened just two rows in front me, and there was no one in front of us. All of a sudden this lady just starts bleeding from the leg,” Miller said. “There were at least two of ’em in a row that got hit, may be a third, but I know two for sure. And all of a sudden security was there and they kicked us out.”
