Keisha Lance Bottoms says stray bullet nearly hit nephew who was lying in bed: 'Inches away'

Former White House adviser and Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said her nephew was nearly struck by a stray bullet that entered his bedroom over the weekend.

According to Bottoms, someone fired a gun in the air and the bullet penetrated the wall of the house – coming "inches away" from hitting her nephew who was lying in bed.

"We are grateful that God protected him. If you have a gun, please act responsibly," she wrote in a tweet on Saturday. "This could be you or your child."

It's unclear who the home belongs to or where it is located.

Bottoms previously lost a nephew to gunfire on June 13, 2014, when Darius Bottoms, 18, was shot in his car in a case of mistaken identity, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

His murder was featured in an episode of "The Real Murders of Atlanta" on the Oxygen channel.

Bottoms, a Democrat, last served in the Biden administration as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. She announced in February she would be stepping down from the role, which she had held since June.

She officially left the White House on April 1 and was replaced by former Columbia, South Carolina, mayor Stephen Benjamin.

Bottoms also served as the mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022, but decided not to seek re-election. She was hired as a political commentator at CNN after her departure from the mayor's office and before joining Biden's team.

Kraken hold off Avalanche in Game 7 victory, sending reigning Stanley Cup champions home

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored twice and Philipp Grubauer was stellar in stopping 33 shots in the Seattle Kraken's defeat of the reigning Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche with a 2-1 win in Game 7 on Sunday night.

The Kraken became the first expansion team to beat the Avalanche in their inaugural playoff series, according to NHL Stats.

Bjorkstrand scored one goal on a fortuitous deflection — the puck hit off a stick and glove — and another with a liner past goaltender Alexandar Georgiev that clanged off the post.

Seattle grabbed the lead in every game in the series.

PANTHERS KNOCK TOP-SEEDED BRUINS OUT OF STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS WITH THRILLING OVERTIME VICTORY IN GAME 7

Mikko Rantanen was credited with a power-play goal for Colorado after a shot by Nathan MacKinnon clipped him and went in. MacKinnon appeared to score early in the third period to tie it at two, but Seattle challenged the play and the goal was disallowed because Colorado was offside.

The Avalanche pulled Georgiev with under two minutes remaining but couldn't get the equalizer. It allowed the Kraken to accomplish another franchise first — a series-clinching celebration.

With Sunday's loss, Colorado has now lost its last six Game 7s.
