Rejected By His Own Party, Democrat Backs Down On Forcing Trump Impeachment Vote

With members of his own party speaking out against his effort, the Democrat angling to compel the GOP-led House into taking action on seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump got cold feet.

Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who had been facing bipartisan opposition and likely would have seen his resolution tabled, announced on X that he would not be forcing a vote on Wednesday after speaking with his colleagues.

“Instead, I will add to my articles of impeachment and continue to rally the support of both Democrats and Republicans to defend the Constitution with me,” Thanedar said.

Thanedar asserted that Trump’s controversial plan to accept a roughly $400 million luxury aircraft known as the “Flying Palace” from Qatar was among the new impeachable offenses that Trump has committed.

In the fifteen days since I filed seven articles of impeachment against President Trump, he has committed more impeachable offenses, most dangerously, accepting a $400 million private jet from Qatar, which even Republican Members of Congress have called wrong.

So, after talking…

He added: “This is not about any one person or party; it is about defending America, our Constitution, and Rule of Law. I will continue to pursue all avenues to put this President on notice and hold him accountable for his many impeachable crimes.”

The House had been expected to vote on his resolution within the hour.

Unveiled last month, Thanedar’s impeachment resolution accused Trump of committing various “high crimes and misdemeanors” over alleged constitutional violations related to taxpayer funds, deportations, tariffs, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), retaliation against the press, and more.

Thanedar gave notice on Tuesday that he would invoke privilege, a move that would push House GOP leadership to act on his impeachment resolution within two legislative days.

However, Axios reported that Democrats privately criticized Thanedar as being a “dumbs***” and “utterly selfish” for pressing ahead with impeachment. The outlet also disclosed how Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) received applause from colleagues during a meeting after he cast the impeachment effort as “idiotic” and “horrible.”

Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) even told fellow Democrats they would vote to table the resolution ahead of time, according to Punchbowl News.

Thanedar, a 70-year-old Indian immigrant serving his second term in the House, is facing primary challenges. The incumbent moved to force the House to act on impeachment following Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), a member of the leftist “Squad,” declaring that she backed one of his rivals.

When he introduced his impeachment articles in April, Thanedar insisted that his effort was “not about partisanship,” but rather “protecting our democracy and ensuring that no one, not even a President, is above the law.”

In his first term, Trump was impeached twice while the Democrats commanded the House. One inquiry dealt with Ukraine, and the other with January 6. Both efforts ended in acquittal by a GOP-led Senate. Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced in February that he would seek to impeach Trump for “dastardly deeds,” but he has not forced a vote. Trump fired back at the Democrats after Thanedar revealed his impeachment articles.

“The Democrats are really out of control. They have lost everything, especially their minds! These Radical Left Lunatics are into the ‘Impeachment thing’ again,” Trump said on X. “They have already got two ‘No Name,’ little respected Congressmen, total Whackjobs both, throwing the ‘Impeachment’ of DONALD J. TRUMP around, for about the 20th time, even though they have no idea for what I would be Impeached.”

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) released a statement criticizing Democrats on the latest impeachment bid before Thanedar backed off.

“House Democrats have demonstrated once again they are willing to abuse the Constitution in their effort to impede the agenda of the American people. Their latest sham impeachment charade against President Trump is another embarrassing political stunt. Today, House Republicans will move promptly to discard it,” Johnson said.

“While Democrats are throwing fits, impeding law enforcement, playing political games, and demonstrating how far out of touch they are — Republicans are working to deliver lower taxes for families, restore American energy dominance, strengthen border security, restore peace through strength, and make government work more efficiently and effectively,” the speaker added. “The contrast has never been more clear.”

Republicans Take Big Step To Codify Trump’s Battle Against Gender Insanity

House Republicans took major step on Wednesday afternoon towards codifying President Donald Trump’s efforts to protect children from transgender procedures during a marathon markup session for the “one, big, beautiful bill” working its way through Congress.

After a 26-hour budget hearing, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed a provision from Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) that would block federal dollars funding transgender procedures. This means that Medicaid, Affordable Care Act, and Children’s Health Insurance Program money will no longer be allowed to fund procedures like removing the breasts of girls who identify as boys or putting children on cross-sex hormones, if the provision makes it through the rest of the reconciliation process.

The provision was included in the committee’s portion of the Trump-backed budget bill. In a video shared with The Daily Wire, Crenshaw said he believed that ultimately his proposal would become law.

“I think it will pass the House, I think it will pass the Senate. I think President Trump will sign it into law. Keep in mind, President Trump has already done an executive action on this, but it needs to be codified for it to really take effect. This is a huge win,” he said. “You got to protect these kids, the science is clear at this point.”

Dan Crenshaw just made sure a ban on federal funding for any transgender procedure on kids is in the House budget bill.

He added that it was “interesting” that Democrats did not introduce any amendments to block his provision while they did for every other GOP-backed proposal.

“They know it’s a losing issue, they know we won this issue. They know to stay away from it. Stay away from kids. Stop doing pseudo-science, scientific experiments on children who would be better off in therapy. We’re winning.”

Crenshaw introduced his provision at around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, roughly 25 hours after the committee began its meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

“This will become law and I couldn’t be happier about it,” Crenshaw said. “Gender transition procedures are the lobotomy of our generation. People will look back on this period, I think with disbelief, I guarantee it. ‘Gender-affirming care’ isn’t healthcare, it’s fringe science with no proven benefit and enormous risks.”

Democrat Rep. Nanette Díaz Barragán (CA) referred to Crenshaw’s comments as “gibberish” and attacked Republicans over provisions meant to reform Medicaid.

Crenshaw proposed a similar bill in January. Now, the proposal from the House Energy Committee will go to the House Budget Committee, which will then combine each of the House committee’s budget proposals into one piece of legislation that will then go to the full House for a vote.

The Texas Republican’s provision was part of the House Energy Committee’s commitment to identify $880 billion in spending cuts. Another proposal from Crenshaw was an 80-hour-per-month work, training, or volunteer requirement for able-bodied, working-age adults without dependents to get Medicaid. Exceptions for seniors, pregnant women, caregivers, students, and those with disabilities were given.

If Crenshaw’s transgender procedures proposal makes it across the finish line, it would cement in law President Donald Trump’s executive order on “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.” Trump directed his cabinet to ensure that no federal dollars were going toward hospitals or institutions that promote or perform transgender procedures on children.

Trump’s executive order called for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to look at ways to “take all appropriate actions to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children” including by examining Medicaid funding. The Department of Health and Human Services released a report earlier this month documenting the risks of transgender procedures for children, including infertility, sexual dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease.

In the other chamber, Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) is pushing for his “No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act,” which would prohibit federal dollars from funding any transgender medical procedure, to be included in the reconciliation process.
