Ben Shapiro Responds To Roseanne Barr’s Comments On The Holocaust

The media is trying to dishonestly “re-cancel” comedian Roseanne Barr over a podcast appearance where she made sarcastic comments related to the Holocaust, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro said Wednesday.

Barr made the comments on an appearance on Theo Von’s podcast this week in an effort to express her belief that the 2020 election was stolen and that President Joe Biden did not fairly defeat former President Donald Trump.

“There’s such a thing as the truth and facts, and we have to stick to it, and that is the truth,” the onetime TV star and stand-up comic said after a series of comments declaring the 2020 election free of corruption. “Nobody died in the Holocaust, either. That’s the truth. It should happen. Six million Jews should die right now because they cause all the problems in the world, but it never happened.”

Shapiro said on his podcast that, in context, Barr’s comments were obviously sarcastic, and that the media was just attempting to further destroy Barr’s career. He added that almost any comedian, like Dave Chappelle or Louis C.K., could easily be canceled by just reading their monologues out of context.

“And the entire media ran with this as though she actually was calling for a new Holocaust, which she clearly is not. And I’ve got to say, like Roseanne says, crazy stuff sometimes and bad stuff sometimes. But this is obviously a media attempt to re-cancel Roseanne Barr,” Shapiro said. “You can hear she’s being sarcastic. It’s a failed attempt at sarcasm, but it’s clearly sarcasm.”

The Daily Wire co-founder explained that Barr was framing her statements in a way to pair two things she didn’t actually believe.

“She’s taking the position of the YouTube censors and she’s saying in the same category of things that are false,” Shapiro said. “These are two things are false, she is saying: Biden won 81 million votes and the Holocaust didn’t happen. She’s saying both those things are false. Right. That’s what she’s actually saying.”

Shapiro said that the media and the Left did this to him all the time, taking comments meant to be comedic and treating them seriously.

“They’re doing it to make fun of me, which is totally fine. They’re doing it to Roseanne to try and destroy whatever’s left of her career, which is really not fine,” he said.

Simone Biles To Return To Competition One Year Ahead Of Paris Olympics

Seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is planning to return to elite competition for the first time since she bowed out of the 2020 Tokyo Games, which were held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Biles stepped away from competition, citing concerns over her mental health, and has not competed. In the time since, she joined several teammates in testifying on Capitol Hill about the abuse she and others suffered at the hands of former team doctor Larry Nassar. The 26-year-old gymnast also recently married Green Bay Packers strong safety Jonathan Owens.

But according to ESPN, the once-reigning champion plans to compete at the U.S. Classic in early August – just one year ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

USA Gymnastics confirmed the news on Wednesday, announcing that Biles would be entered into the women’s field for the U.S. Classic, which is scheduled to take place on August 4-5 at Chicago’s NOW Arena.

Several of Biles’ teammates from Tokyo will also be entered in Chicago, including Tokyo all-around champion Sunisa Lee – who took home two gold medals from the 2020 Games. Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles, who also competed in Tokyo, are slated to compete as well.

Biles was the biggest name in gymnastics for years, shocking the world when she announced just after her first competition that she would be sitting out the rest of the Tokyo Games.

“Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue,” U.S.A. Gymnastics said in a statement at the time. “She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

Biles later revealed that she had suffered from a condition known in gymnastics as “the twisties” — which causes athletes to lose track of where they are during aerial twists and flips and can potentially result in serious injury.

“It’s so dangerous,” Biles said of her experience in Tokyo. “It’s basically life or death. It’s a miracle I landed on my feet. If that was any other person, they would have gone out on a stretcher. As soon as I landed that vault, I went and told my coach: ‘I cannot continue.'”
