Atlanta mayor appoints Darin Schierbaum to serve as police chief

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced Monday that he has appointed the city's interim police chief to fill the position permanently.

Darin Schierbaum, who has served as interim chief since June, has been with the Atlanta Police Department for two decades. Dickens said in a news release that Schierbaum shares his vision for public safety in Atlanta and was selected after a national search.

"He has earned my trust, the respect of our community, and the support of the women and men of the Atlanta Police Department," Dickens said. "A proponent of 21st Century Policing, Chief Schierbaum will continue building deep ties between the Atlanta police and the community they serve."

Schierbaum joined the department in 2002 after graduating as valedictorian in his police academy class. He had previously worked for 10 years with the Johnson County Sheriff's Department in Illinois.

During his career in Atlanta, he has led the Community Liaison Unit, the LGBT Liaison Unit, the Hispanic Liaison Unit and the Graffiti Abatement Unity, the release says. He has also been involved in training officers and has overseen public safety for major events in the city.

"I thank Mayor Dickens for the opportunity to serve this city and the incredible men and women of the Atlanta Police Department," Schierbaum said in the release. "We will continue to aggressively target gangs, drugs and illegal guns in our city, while also deepening the bonds of trust and service between the force and the community."

‘Welcome To The Republican Party,’ Kid Rock To Maher When HBO Host Slams Woke Push In Schools

Superstar Kid Rock appeared on Bill Maher‘s latest podcast and “welcomed” him to the “Republican Party” after the HBO host slammed the woke push in schools.

During “Club Random with Bill Maher” podcast on Sunday, the podcast host told the 51-year-old singer — born Robert James Ritchie — that he would be a bad parent if he had kids now in school dealing with the transgender push.

“Okay, you want me to be accepting whatever of a dude dressing up like a girl,” Kid Rock explained. “Wanting to use the girls bathroom, cutting his dick off … but you got a problem, which is not proven to be true, but you got a problem with a guy who might’ve pissed on a hooker in Russia. Come on.”

Maher said since we “have no dissenting votes on this issue” let’s “agree that what heals America, more than anything, is two people who have the acumen to figure out what they are not going to convince the other of …”

Later, Maher brought the conversation back to the topic of the gender identity push and said if he had kids he’d be a “very bad parent.”

“I would be a very bad parent right now,” the host shared. “Because I would fight. We would be very aligned on this, a lot of this. I would be a very bad parent because they would be doing things in the school that I didn’t think was appropriate.”

“Not from either side or point of view,” he added. “The subject itself. They are five. Can we just do blocks and the sky is blue before we get to drag queens? There’s levels of sophistication that are just …”

“Bill, welcome to the Republican Party,” Ritchie interjected while he held his hand out to the host to shake it.

Maher didn’t shake his hand and said the “Picture” hitmaker must not be watching his “Real Time with Bill Maher” show, stating that he’s been saying similar for years.

“You don’t have to welcome me,” the HBO host added. “And by the way I don’t want to be in the Republican Party at all.”

Ritchie told him he could make a couple of calls.

“Oh, I know the invite is there,” Maher replied. “I don’t want it. Pick another kid for your team …”

The underlying theme throughout the entire nearly 2 hour long show was both men calling for the need to find a common ground when it comes to politics and to stop hating other people simply because they are not on your team.
