Mayra Flores, The First Mexican-Born Congresswoman, Responds After Rejection From Hispanic Caucus

Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) on Wednesday blasted Democrats‘ “bias toward conservative Latinas” after it was reported that Flores, the first Mexican-born woman ever elected to Congress, was denied acceptance to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) because she’s a Republican.

The CHC confirmed Wednesday that Flores was denied entry, in part, because she’s a Republican, after Townhall first reported on the reason for the rejection based on sourcing.

“As the first Mexican-born American Congresswoman, I thought the Hispanic Caucus would be open in working together,” the Republican reacted to the Townhall report via Twitter. “This denial once again proves a bias toward conservative Latinas that don’t fit their narrative or ideology.”

The caucus is exclusively made up of Democrats, and refuses to accept Republicans, including Flores, the Texas Tribune noted. The CHC, the report noted, was originally founded in 1976 and made up of both Republicans and Democrats, but the group fractured during the 1990s. Republicans left the CHC to form the Congressional Hispanic Conference in 2003.

“In 2003, led by Rep. Diaz Balart, GOP Members split from the CHC to form the Congressional Hispanic Conference. Per our bylaws, the CHC is now for Democratic Members,” CHC spokesperson and communications director Sebastian Roa said in a statement sent to The Daily Wire.

“Rep. Flores’ Extreme MAGA values and their attacks on Latinos and our nation’s democracy on January 6 do not align with CHC values,” Roa added.

Flores has been on the receiving end of Democrats’ numerous attacks, including some centered around her Mexican heritage.

Rep. Vincente Gonzales (D-TX), the Democrat congressman who ran against Flores for her Texas House seat, paid a blogger who referred to his opponent as “Miss Frijoles,” “cotton-pickin’ liar,” and even more vile insults, according to report from NBC published over the summer.

Gonzales paid $1,200 to the McHale Report Blog on June 24 for “advertising services.” After the payment, the blog has repeatedly and viciously attacked Flores, calling her “Miss Frijoles” over 20 times, The Daily Wire reported.

“My far left opponent, Vincent Gonzalez, hired a local blogger to run hateful & racist ads against me,” Flores tweeted at the time. “But, I love frijoles & I grew up eating frijoles. I am not embarrassed of my upbringings & frijoles w/tortillas de harina is simply the best. Here’s to Miss Frijoles 2022.”

Jerry McHale, who runs the blog, has accused Flores of being a “Trump fanatic” and defended his attacks as just part of the political game. He also posted on May 13, prior to the check from the Gonzalez campaign, “Does Flores want Trump to come & take her p****?”

The blog also included other attacks against Flores, including vulgar descriptions of her vagina and labeling her “Miss Enchiladas” and similar terms. Included in other posts is conversation with a friend who discusses not wanting to spend the night with Flores because of concerns about “rotten p****.”

Former Dem Nevada official pleads not guilty in journalist's stabbing death; state won't seek death penalty

Nevada prosecutors said Wednesday they will not seek the death penalty in the capital murder case against Robert Telles, a former Clark County official accused of stabbing an investigative journalist to death in Las Vegas last month.

Telles, 45, pleaded not guilty to murder with a weapon of a victim 60 years or older and could be sentenced to life in prison without parole if convicted.

Prosecutors allege that Telles targeted Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German, 69, after the journalist published reports critical of Telles' conduct as head of the Clark County Public Administrator’s office.

German reported in May of this year that the office had a "hostile work environment" fueled by Telles' "inappropriate relationship" with a staffer. Telles, a Democrat, lost his bid for reelection the next month.

Telles allegedly stabbed German seven times shortly before noon on Sept. 2 at the journalist's home.

JUDGE RULES THAT OFFICIALS MUST WAIT TO ACCESS SLAIN JOURNALIST'S CELL PHONE, ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Prosecutors say that Telles' DNA was found underneath German's fingernails and that surveillance video showed Telles walking near German's home while wearing a reflective vest and large straw hat shortly before the attack. A similar hat was later found at Telles' home during a search, according to police.

An attorney for Telles did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

After German's death, his family said that he "devoted his life to his work exposing wrongdoing in Las Vegas and beyond."

"We’re shocked, saddened and angry about his death," the family's statement said. "Jeff was committed to seeking justice for others and would appreciate the hard work by local police and journalists in pursuing his killer. We look forward to seeing justice done in this case."
