Oz slams Fetterman over Democrat policies increasing crime

Pennsylvania Republican senatorial candidate Mehmet Oz and Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano joined Sean Hannity for a Fox News Town Hall in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, where they criticized Democratic politics as the root of most of America's problems.

Oz, challenging Lt. Gov. John Fetterman for retiring Sen. Patrick J. Toomey's, R-Pa., seat, told Fox News that Democratic policies are "farming homelessness" in much of Pennsylvania's urban areas.

He accused Fetterman of failing to express compassion toward Pennsylvanians living in inner city environments where illegal drug use and crime are spiking. Oz cited recent visits to Kensington – a neighborhood in Near Northeast Philadelphia he called the nation's "largest open air drug market."

Oz pointed to Fetterman's history of breaking with the state parole board, on which he sits, to express support for clemency for some violent criminals.

"Think of this: If a jury of your peers think that you murdered somebody and a judge sentences you to life in prison, they're probably right. And so who are you to walk in there and say, I don't care what you guys think."

"He seems to care more about the criminals than the innocent," Oz said, adding that voters he speaks with in historically Democratic Philadelphia are upset with that stance and feel they are "part of a social experiment" when it comes to soft-on-crime politics in the Commonwealth.

"And we're farming homelessness, literally. Democratic policies have resulted in something that's shameful. [Democrats] won't go there. I go there because I want to show that Republicans care about everybody."

Mastriano similarly criticized his opponent, Attorney General Joshua Shapiro, for being also allegedly soft-on-crime like Fetterman, citing a double-digit percentage spike in crime statewide under the Montgomery County Democrat's term as Pennsylvania's top law enforcement officer.

"We're on track for a record 600 homicides. I mean, the guy can't do anything right. And then to make matters worse, instead of doing his job and protecting the people in their constitutional rights, he sued to keep kids in masks," said Mastriano, who rose to prominence in the state senate as a chief critic of Shapiro, Gov. Tom Wolf and now-Biden Assistant Health Secretary Rachel Levine during the coronavirus pandemic.

The retired Army colonel said Wolf and Levine's mandates shuttered businesses, and how Shapiro was part and parcel in regard to state lawsuits to keep them closed.

On the campaign trail, Shapiro has said that "this is an area where I think folks got it wrong," regarding shutdowns, saying he opposes vaccine mandates in favor of "educat[ing] and empower[ing]" Pennsylvanians to make affirmative decisions in that regard.

On Fox News, Mastriano added that Philadelphia is specifically one of the 67 counties in focus for his campaign, as it has been under largely Democratic control since the 1950s.

"It's time for a change and you've got nothing to lose," the Chambersburg lawmaker said, addressing the state's largest city.

Judi Dench defends royal family, accuses Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ of ‘crude sensationalism’

Dame Judi Dench this week accused the Netflix drama "The Crown" of "crude sensationalism" and of being "cruelly unjust" in its depictions of the British royal family.

The actress, who has portrayed Queen Elizabeth II on screen and was made a dame by the late monarch in 1988, called the show "brilliant" but argued in a letter to the Times of London the drama needs a disclaimer at the beginning of the show to emphasize its portrayals of royal history are fictional.

Dench particularly took exception to the latest season of the show depicting the 1990s with a plotline in which then-Prince Charles tries to force the queen to abdicate.

She said the latest season of the show is an "inaccurate and hurtful account of history… Indeed, the closer the drama comes to our present times, the more freely it seems willing to blur the lines between historical accuracy and crude sensationalism."

‘THE CROWN’ SEASON 5 RECREATES CHARLES, CAMILLA'S 1989 FLIRTATIOUS CALL, DIANA'S ‘REVENGE’ DRESS AND MORE

She continued, "While many will recognise The Crown for the brilliant but fictionalised account of events that it is, I fear that a significant number of viewers, particularly overseas, may take its version of history as being wholly true. Given some of the wounding suggestions apparently contained in the new series — that King Charles plotted for his mother to abdicate, for example, or once suggested his mother’s parenting was so deficient that she might have deserved a jail sentence — this is both cruelly unjust to the individuals and damaging to the institution they represent."

She mentioned the recent denial by Former British Prime Minister John Major that Charles asked him to force the queen out as depicted on the show.

The "James Bond" actress stressed her belief in "artistic freedom" but said "this cannot go unchallenged. Despite this week stating publicly that The Crown has always been a ‘fictionalised drama’ the programme makers have resisted all calls for them to carry a disclaimer at the start of each episode."

She also invoked the queen’s death on Sept. 8. "The time has come for Netflix to reconsider — for the sake of a family and a nation so recently bereaved, as a mark of respect to a sovereign who served her people so dutifully for 70 years, and to preserve its reputation in the eyes of its British subscribers."

"The Crown," now in its fifth season, first depicted the queen’s youth before she came to the throne and has since moved on to the 1990s. The filmmakers have vowed to always stay at least 20 years in the past on the show, meaning there won’t be any plots involving Meghan Markle anytime soon.
