Biden’s Campaign Announces $50M ‘Media Blitz’ In Battleground States Amid Health Questions

The re-election campaign for President Joe Biden on Friday announced a $50 million “paid media blitz” in battleground states emphasizing high-profile events like the Olympic Games and the Republican National Convention.

The spending spree comes as Biden has faced pressure to drop out of the presidential race over his physical and mental condition after a shaky debate performance against former President Donald Trump. The GOP convention takes place July 15-18 in Milwaukee. The Summer Olympic Games begin on July 26.

“The Olympics, which are popular among every demographic and increasingly popular among Gen Z, will be a critical moment for Team Biden-Harris to reach a wide swath of the voters this campaign needs to win in November,” the campaign said. “Team Biden-Harris will also leverage other key moments this month, including the Republican National Convention, where Trump and his extremist agenda will be under a national spotlight.”

The radio, digital, and TV ads will target audiences in the key battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In recent months, Biden has largely fallen behind Trump in polling from these states.

The campaign said the spots would focus on “a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, economic relief and opportunities for middle- and working-class families, and the threat Donald Trump poses to our democracy and the rule of law.”

Last month, two Left-wing organizations launched a $50 million ad campaign for Biden touting his “Inflation Reduction Act” in the same battleground states. The legislation, signed in August 2022,  allocated billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies for green energy companies.

The campaign, organized by Climate Power and Future Forward USA Action, took aim at oil companies for high gas prices and said that the Inflation Reduction Act “reduces pollution,” “lowers the cost of healthcare,” and has created “new, good paying clean energy jobs in solar and wind” and reduced dependence on “foreign oil.”

Biden has held a massive fundraising advantage over Trump, but the former president has gained ground in recent weeks with money pouring in after his conviction in his New York hush-money trial.

WATCH: RNC Teases Convention 10 Days Away In New Hype Video

The Republican National Committee is hyping its upcoming convention in Milwaukee, at which former President Donald Trump is expected to be officially nominated as the 2024 Republican presidential candidate.

The start of the convention is 10 days away, scheduled to begin on July 15 and last through July 18. The RNC prepared a short video hyping the three-day event that was first obtained by The Daily Wire.

The video is about 15 seconds long and is narrated by Republican Rep. Bryan Steil of Wisconsin. It features scenic video of Milwaukee, images of preparations taking place at the convention center, footage from Trump’s campaign, along with other images.

“Our nation’s at a crossroad and in July, Wisconsin will be in the driver’s seat. See you in Milwaukee,” Steil says as the shots flash by.

The convention is expected to attract 50,000 delegates, officials, and other guests. Roughly 10,000 hotel rooms have been booked in Wisconsin to accommodate the attendees. According to one estimate, the event’s economic impact is expected to be around $200 million for the state of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin is shaping up to be a key battleground state in the 2024 presidential race. Trump currently has a slight edge over President Joe Biden, whose campaign has struggled to overcome a wave of opposition from Democrats after his feeble debate performance last week. Trump is running two points ahead of Biden in the Real Clear Politics polling average for Wisconsin. The latest poll, conducted by Remington Research after last week’s debate, showed Trump leading Biden in the state by 6 points.

Trump is expected to name his vice presidential choice either just ahead of the convention or during it. He has teased his pick for weeks leading up to the event. The reported finalists for the spot include North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Sen. JD Vance of Ohio. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is also reportedly in contention, though his position is complicated by laws surrounding the residency of the president and vice president. Rubio would have to establish his residence outside of the state of Florida. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina and Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas have also been mentioned.
