Celine Dion Wows At Paris Olympics In Return To Stage Amid Battle With Stiff Person Syndrome

Celine Dion absolutely wowed at the Paris Olympics when she returned to the stage Friday for the first time in years amid her health battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) after being diagnosed in 2022.

In clips that surfaced on X, the 56-year-old Grammy winner appeared on a stage on the Eiffel Tower singing in French Edith Piaf’s “Hymne A L’Amour” as she performed the final act in the opening ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics, The Guardian reported.

Performing in a sparkling silver sequined gown, she sounded just as incredible as ever as she was accompanied by a pianist with the five Olympic rings appearing to float above her. At the end of her song, the crowd can be heard cheering loudly and clapping.

“Si je dois revenir chanter, ce sera pour les Jeux Olympiques.”

Reading through the comments online, social media users appeared to be just as blown away, calling her performance “inspirational,” “spectacular,” and more.

In 2021, Dion stopped her Las Vegas residency, and it wasn’t long after that she revealed she’d been dealing with the debilitating symptoms connected to the autoimmune neurological disorder, which she said started as early as 2008, the New York Post reported.

Speaking to Vogue France in April, the singer opened up about her life-altering illness and said she’s hoping to “find a miracle.”

“I haven’t beat the disease, as it’s still within me and always will be,” Dion said. “I hope that we’ll find a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but for now I have to learn to live with it. So that’s me, now, with Stiff Person Syndrome.”

“Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy,” she added. “I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice … I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At the beginning I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault? Life doesn’t give you any answers. You just have to live it!”

“I have this illness for some unknown reason,” the legendary singer continued. “The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”

Prince Harry Says He Won’t Take Meghan Markle Back To U.K.

Prince Harry made it clear that he won’t be taking his wife Meghan Markle back to the United Kingdom anytime soon because he said it’s “still dangerous.”

During his appearance on ITV’s documentary “Tabloids on Trial,” the Duke of Sussex said that he’s worried about bringing the Duchess of Sussex or any member of his family to the country without adequate security, People magazine noted.

“It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read,” Harry said.

“And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me,” he added. “It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”

Following Prince Harry and Markle’s decision in 2020 to step down from their senior royal roles, RAVEC (a committee made up of the Home Office, Metropolitan Police, and the Royal Household) announced that it had removed the royal family member’s automatic right to taxpayer-funded U.K. police protection.

‘He doesn’t even have to stop for red lights!’

Former Royal Correspondent for The Sun, Charles Rae, says that Prince Harry is being ‘disingenuous’ in his concerns for his safety in the UK, given the security measures he has.

In February, the London High Court ruled in favor of the government and found that there had been no “procedural unfairness” in how the Duke of Sussex was being treated — despite his attorney’s argument that Prince Harry still faced security threats, the BBC reported.

Prince Harry had argued that there was unlawfulness in how he was being treated when his security protection was being made on a case-by-case basis rather than automatically being given at the same level he previously had.

Though parts of the decision were redacted, the court agreed with RAVEC’s decision, calling it “legally sound” to treat the royal’s protection the same as any other high-profile visitor to the U.K., the outlet noted.

Prince Harry has said he plans to appeal the decision after claiming that he needed the security protection for his kids, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, when they are in his native home.

“The U.K. is my home,” the royal previously said. “The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.”

“That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil,” he added. “I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”

The Duke of Sussex also offered to cover the costs, but earlier this year, the High Court denied his offer and upheld the decision to downgrade his security, as previously reported.

The Home Office argued that it would be improper for the police to be hired as private security guards, The New York Times noted.
