Hillary Clinton Hopes Drag Show Bans Go ‘The Way Of The Dinosaur’

If Hillary Clinton had her way, restrictions placed on drag performances would become a thing of the past.

A reporter with The New York Times caught up with Clinton at the opening night of “Bob Fosse’s Dancin’” on Broadway.

Clinton weighed in on the prospect that a show such as “Some Like It Hot,” in which the male leads dress up like women to join an all-female band and hide from the mob after witnessing a murder, could face bans in certain states.

“It’s a very sad commentary on what people think is important in our country,” Clinton said. “I hope that it goes the way of the dinosaur because people will recognize that it’s just a political stunt.”

The newspaper specifically cited in its report on Monday a new law in Tennessee placing restrictions on “cabaret” performances but did not mention how the legislation was geared toward protecting children from sexually explicit drag shows.

A bill, signed into law by Republican Governor Bill Lee this month, aimed to create “an offense for a person who engages in an adult cabaret performance on public property or in a location where the adult cabaret performance could be viewed by a person who is not an adult.”

As part of a recent wave of action by conservative lawmakers, a number of bills have been introduced in states across the country to prevent minors from being able to attend drag performances. “Drag Story Hour” events in particular have become a focus of criticism. Critics, including LGBTQ advocates, claim the legislative push is motivated by bigotry and false equivalencies tying family-friendly events to more suggestive performances.

Clinton surmised such “absurd” restrictions might lead to a crackdown on performances from literary legends like William Shakespeare.

“I guess they’re going to shut the state borders to anything that is Shakespearean?” Clinton said. “Are we going to stop exporting any kind of entertainment?”

Clinton, who is the wife of former President Bill Clinton, is also a former U.S. senator, a former secretary of state, and a failed 2016 presidential candidate.

On Monday, TMZ reported that sources told them that Shaq was in the hospital over the weekend to fix an issue with his hip and that everything had gone smoothly.

Last year, the NBA superstar talked about focusing on his health more and his efforts to slim down thanks to his “NBA on TNT” cohost, Charles Barkley, The New York Post noted.

“I like to create crazy motivation,” O’Neal said during an appearance on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast. “I was looking at myself and I had that Charles Barkley retirement body.”

“I didn’t want my stomach to be over the belt anymore,” he added. “So I was just like, ‘Let me go ahead and get slim.’ After that [picture] went viral, now I’ve got to live up to it.”

“I was 401 pounds. Now I’m 365,” Shaq continued. “I’m trying to take it back to 345. I want to have muscles everywhere, and I want to do an underwear ad with my sons [for] Fruit of the Loom, baby.”
