Leading MI Democrat Posts Obscene Message On ‘Thoughts And Prayers,’ Calls For Gun Control

A top Democratic lawmaker in Michigan derided offering “thoughts and prayers” while pushing stricter gun regulations after a shooting at Michigan State University on Monday.

State Rep. Ranjeev Puri, the majority whip in Michigan’s Democrat-controlled House, issued a statement just after midnight on Tuesday after, according to police, a 43-year-old gunman killed three students and wounded five more. The suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

“Today, we begin to collectively heal from the horrific events which transpired, tomorrow we work,” Puri said in his early morning post on social media. “My official statement regarding the Michigan State University shooting is below: F*** your thoughts and prayers.”

In a longer statement attached to the post, Puri called thoughts and prayers “meaningless” without “action and change” before calling for stricter restrictions on firearms.

“What happened in East Lansing is unfortunately far too common,” Puri said. “Going to school in America, whether it’s pre-school or college, means risking your life every day to the threat of a mass shooting. Yet all we have offered up are empty solutions – traumatizing active shooter drills and bulletproof backpacks.”

“We do not need to live like this. The United States is the only country where this happens,” he continued.

He went on to suggest “common sense gun reform” legislation could have prevented the Michigan State shooting.

“Thoughts and prayers with action and change are meaningless. Our office will continue to work tirelessly to pass common sense gun reform immediately. We will not stop until our students can attend school without fear, our communities can attend places of worship in peace, and our society is safe from senseless gun violence,” Puri said.

Today, we begin to collectively heal from the horrific events which transpired, tomorrow we work.

It is unclear how the suspected Michigan State shooter came to possess his firearm. Authorities have recovered a firearm at the scene but have not yet confirmed if it was the same firearm used in the shooting, according to CNN.

Michigan State University Interim President Teresa Woodruff said on Tuesday that all classes would be canceled until at least the next week.

The university would be in restricted operations for the next 48 hours, Woodruff said in a press conference on Tuesday morning, “then we’ll move into a period where classes will be canceled until Monday morning, but campus operations will resume.”

“We will provide the resources the students need for the time period they need,” she continued, thanking the federal government for its support.

‘Batgirl’ Actress Thinks Canning The Film Pre-Release Was A Mistake: ‘There Was Definitely Potential’

Batgirl” star Leslie Grace is going public with her thoughts on Warner Bros. making the shocking decision to scrap the movie in 2022 and take a tax write-off instead.

The 28-year-old actress said she was never contacted by the studio about the decision to cancel. The company spent $90 million on the project but pulled it after poor audience reviews during screening.

“I found out like the rest of you,” Grace told Variety during a recent interview. “And then my phone just started blowing up.”

“I thought I was getting punked, but it checked out,” co-star Brendan Fraser said of finding out the movie would never reach audiences.

“When we were expecting XYZ amount of support and money to expand scenes — to do pickup shots and those kinds of things — that was a gut punch,” he continued. “But then we learned that it was in the interest of writing down some debt? That part really stung.”

Grace admitted that there were challenges during filming, but not enough to merit the total cancellation, at least in her opinion.

“I’m not going to lie to you. In every film, there are obstacles, and our film was nothing short of that. Half of the shoot was night shoots in Scotland, where it never stops raining,” she said. “So there were obstacles, but at the end of the day, because of the incredible crew, nothing that ever got in the way of us delivering what we knew we wanted to deliver for this film. At least from what I was able to see.”

The actress said she saw a rough cut of the unfinished movie and still can’t understand why it was never completed.

“I got to see the film as far as it got to; the film wasn’t complete by the time that it was tested,” Grace explained. “There were a bunch of scenes that weren’t even in there. They were at the beginning of the editing process, and they were cut off because of everything going on at the company.”

She concluded: “But the film that I got to see — the scenes that were there — was incredible. There was definitely potential for a good film, in my opinion.”

As for the future of “Batgirl,” Grace says fans shouldn’t give up hope just yet.

“We’ve definitely had conversations about Batgirl’s future and how Batgirl can make a resurgence. I think fans are looking forward to seeing that,” she said.

“We’ll just see where that takes us; I can’t say one way or the other if that is a reality at this point,” the actress went on, saying she “can’t speak too much about a future for Batgirl or guarantee anything.”

“The last thing that I would want to do is give folks any kind of inkling of something that I have not much control over — as we’ve learned,” Grace said.
