Newsmax, DirecTV Work Out Deal To Bring Back Conservative Network

DirecTV’s 13 million customers can once again turn the channel to Newsmax after the conservative network worked out a deal with the TV giant.

Newsmax, which boasts a viewership of 25 million Americans, was removed by DirecTV in January and claimed it was targeted by the cable company because of its Right-wing political leanings. DirecTV, which is owned by AT&T, argued that it dropped Newsmax simply due to failed carriage negotiations, but then announced on Wednesday that the companies finally reached an agreement, CNBC reported.

“This resolution with Newsmax, resolving an all-too-common carriage dispute, underscores our dedication to delivering a wide array of programming and perspectives to our customers,” DirecTV CEO Bill Morrow said in a statement.

Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy, who previously accused DirecTV of “political discrimination and censorship,” said he was grateful for the new deal with the cable company that helped launch the network in 2014.

“Newsmax recognizes and appreciates that DirecTV clearly supports diverse voices, including conservative ones,” Ruddy said. “As a standalone company, DirecTV helped give Newsmax its start nearly a decade ago as it continues to do with upcoming news networks, which is why we are pleased to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that will deliver our network to DirecTV, DirecTV STREAM and U-verse customers over the next several years.”

After Newsmax said that it had been dropped by DirecTV in January, Republican senators penned a letter, asking DirecTV to explain the decision that “deeply disturbed” them. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Tom Cotton (R-AR) wrote that DirecTV’s decision to drop Newsmax came as “collusion between Big Tech companies and Democrat officials” was being revealed. Through that collusion, conservative points of view were marked as “misinformation” and censored, the senators argued.

“The silencing of conservative speech at the request of government officials is a direct assault on free speech and a threat to democracy,” the letter said.

Those on the Right alleged that DirecTV was attempting to silence conservative speech by dropping Newsmax and pointed to the cable company’s decision last spring to axe One America News Network, another Right-wing news channel. DirecTV informed OAN that it would not renew its contract with the network after DirecTV faced pressure from some on the Left to drop OAN because they believed it was spreading “misinformation” regarding COVID and the 2020 presidential election.

Gisele Bündchen Breaks Silence About Tom Brady Divorce, Weighs In On Rumors

Gisele Bündchen broke her silence about her divorce from former NFL star Tom Brady and responded to rumors that his refusal to walk away from football had something to do with their split.

The 42-year-old supermodel said that she and Brady ended their 13 years of marriage because “sometimes you grow together; sometimes you grow apart,” Vanity Fair reported.

“When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together,” Bündchen explained. “As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make.”

“That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person,” she added. “It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life that you want to live, you have to have somebody who can meet you in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.”

“When you love someone, you don’t put them in a jail and say, ‘You have to live this life,'” she continued.  “You set them free to be who they are, and if you want to fly the same direction, then that’s amazing.”

Bündchen said their divorce is “like a death and a rebirth.”

“The death of my dream. It’s tough because you imagine your life was going to be a certain way, and you did everything you could, you know?” Bündchen explained.

The Vanity Fair reporter said Bündchen’s voice broke at this point in the conversation before she apologized, got herself under control, and continued answering questions.

“I believed in fairy tales when I was a kid,” the model explained. “I think it’s beautiful to believe in that. I mean, I’m so grateful I did.”

“You give everything you got to achieve your dream,” she added. “You give a hundred percent of yourself, and it’s heartbreaking when it doesn’t end up the way you hoped for, and worked for, but you can only do your part.”

When pressed further about whether Brady’s decision to unretire in 2022 had something to do with their divorce, Bündchen said it “takes years” for a marriage to come to an end.

“Listen, I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever,” Bündchen said. “If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true. That’s what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart.”

She said the headlines at the time were “very hurtful” and “made me somebody who is against football,” which was the furthest thing from the truth.

“Like, I would give up my dream because of…” Bündchen trails off. “Wow, people really made it about that. What’s been said is one piece of a much bigger puzzle. It’s not so black and white.”

In October, Brady confirmed reports that he and Bündchen were officially divorced after weeks of speculation that their marriage was over. Bündchen and Brady share two kids.
