FBI Offers Help In NJ Investigation As More Details Emerge About Murdered GOP Councilwoman

The FBI is now “involved” in the investigation into the murder of New Jersey Republican Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour as more details about her personal life and the moments leading up to her death come to light.

Dwumfour, 30, was gunned down Wednesday night in her white Nissan SUV while pulling up to her Sayreville, New Jersey, home. Now, the FBI has offered its help as a team of investigators from the Sayreville Police Department and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office search for more information about the slain councilwoman’s life in hopes of finding any clues that will bring them closer to catching her killer, ABC 7 reported

“We are aware of the investigation into the death of Councilwoman Dwumfour, in Sayreville Wednesday evening. We have talked with our local law enforcement partners at the Sayreville Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. Should they ask us for any assistance, we will do all we can to help their investigation,” a statement from the FBI read.

After she was shot multiple times, Dwumfour’s vehicle reportedly traveled around 100 feet before hitting two parked cars. Police later told The New York Post that the New Jersey politician was seen on video talking to the shooter moments before she was murdered.

Eyewitnesses say they saw the gunman run toward Garden State Parkway after firing multiple times into Dwumfour’s vehicle. Police later received a tip and searched for the murder weapon in the woods behind the complex where Dwumfour lived, but did not report any findings, according to ABC 7.

Dwumfour was elected to the Borough of Sayreville City Council in an upset victory over her Democratic opponent in 2021. She was also a business analyst and part-time EMT and heavily involved in a Nigerian church group, The New York Post reported. The Republican councilwoman was the oldest of five children born to a Ghanaian family. In December, Dwumfour celebrated getting married. She was also the mother of an 11-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

One controversial moment during her time as councilwoman came less than a year after she took office. Last September, Dwumfour joined a fellow Republican on the borough council in moving a resolution to investigate a former Democratic councilman for his alleged role in a strip club bribery scheme, the Post reported.

During her time on the borough council, Dwumfour was lauded as a gracious public servant who got along with everyone she met.

“[Eunice] was very well liked by anybody who spoke to her or had any dealings with her, so this was really a shocking event,” former Chair of the Sayreville GOP Arthur Rittenhouse told the Post, adding, “She had a very, very pleasant personality. And she was a woman of her faith, and she always expressed that to whomever she was speaking to,”

Matthew McConaughey Claims A Fortune Teller Convinced Him To Join Cast Of ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’

Matthew McConaughey claimed during an interview published Thursday that a psychic convinced him to accept the leading role in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” opposite Kate Hudson.

The 53-year-old movie star told the story during an interview with Vanity Fair in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary this year.

“I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard when suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortuneteller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, man. Sure,’” McConaughey recalled.

“He immediately goes, ‘There’s a movie you’re considering right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do this or it will be one of the biggest regrets of your life. It is going to be a blast, it is going to be an incredible experience and it is going to make a bunch of money,’” he continued.

The actor remembered wondering if the studio had set up the interaction to convince him but ultimately determined the interaction was real. “Did the studio hire this guy? I laughed at the thought, but I also remember taking a more serious consideration. I think I even accepted the offer the next day.”

While McConaughey had already starred in several big-name projects by 2003, he hadn’t made the transition to starring in romantic comedies yet. The movie’s producer admitted to being skeptical about casting the actor, too.

Lynda Obst told Vanity Fair that a talent agent pitched McConaughey to her.

“I’m like, ‘Well, Matthew McConaughey is so Texan, but it’s kind of genius.’ So that’s in the back of my head. Now we’re in the meeting and [then-Paramount President] Sherry [Lansing] says to Kate [Hudson], ‘We have to bring this to a head. We have to find an actor that we both agree with,'” she said.

Obst recalled bringing up McConaughey’s name during the discussion. “And then Sherry said, ‘Matthew McConaughey.’ And Kate said, ‘Matthew McConaughey.’ And John Goldman said, ‘Matthew McConaughey.’ Everybody just looked at each other, and Kate said, ‘I would do it with him.’”

During the interview, the movie execs also mentioned how Gwyneth Paltrow was originally slated to play the lead actress role but later had to pull out of the project.

Hudson also said that there are no plans for a sequel to the hit romantic comedy. “My hope is that [Andie and Ben] are happy, they’ve got a bunch of kids, they got married, and they’re still playing Bulls*** with his parents,” she told Vanity Fair. “If there was a sequel, I’m sure there would be some conflict in there somewhere.”
